Hello all you beerdork fans out there. I am sitting here writing to you on my day off. You see the certain brewery I work at is not packaging beer today because nobody believes in drinking beer during these cold winter months in the Midwest. Whatever the situation is please support your favorite brewer and start buying beer. Not only will it keep me working during the off season, if you drink enough you will forget just how cold it is outside. Now leave your home, drive to your closest liquor store and buy some beer. Before you leave though you should read the rest of this article and take into consideration that you might like to try this brew.

I have had the pleasure to taste many styles of Lakefront Brewery beer being a local resident of the area. Yours truly has even tried their Friday night fish fry while listening to the Polka Kings jam out in the beer hall. It almost felt like you were part of the traditional beer garden atmosphere that was popular in the 1800s. Everything about that night was excellent, especially the beer. So every time I sample a beer from Lakefront Brewery, that sense of old world tradition fills me up.

Now onto the beer called Focktoberfest. This brew is dedicated to Art Kumbalek, a contributor of The Shepherd Express (this being a weekly local newspaper somewhat equivalent to The Onion) and a Milwaukee native. If you would like to read some of his articles you can go to The Shepherd Express website and search for Art Kumbalek.

This beer is in perfect Oktoberfest style. It is unfiltered so when you open the bottle you can detect a slight aroma of yeast. The pour is thick, as it should be being a very malty brew. It has a nice balance of Hersbrucker hops and Vienna malts that impart a hint of hop aroma and a sweet malt character. What makes this different is the obvious fact that it was released in January and not the traditional September-October months. Franz is a happy man when he can find this beer style out of season and have it taste soooooo good. You cannot begin to imagine the joy and anticipation I felt when this beer was purchased, the excitement when it was opened and poured and finally that delicious taste that still lingers in my mouth minutes after it is gone. If any of you out there do not already get it, I am a HUGE fan of Oktoberfest/Märzen style beer. That being said, I think I am going to sprint to the refrigerator and grab myself another one.
