This beer is a black as the faces of the coal men who fired the trains that pulled the Pullman rail cars. And its head dissipated about as fast as Pullman workers’ wages. It has a rich, heavy feel, much like the trunks that Pullman porters helped passengers load and unload on those trains all those years ago.
Like George Pullman’s life must have been, this beer smells and tastes sweet. It is brewed with molasses, which is why it has the sweet scent and flavor. But it is not sugary sweet. The hops, molasses, and coffee flavor combine to give the whole beer the complexity of a town like Pullman, though once a company town, it’s also won an award for being the “World’s Most Perfect Town.”
All in all, a good beer. And if you’re interested in the history of Pullman Illinois, which produced the train car in which Lincoln’s body was conveyed from Washington D.C. to his burial place in Springfield, Illinois, you can find out more at the links below.
