With it being the height of summer, I figured the “refreshingly different” wheat beer from Capital would be mighty tasty. Unfortunately, that’s not quite the case. This wheat ale is brewed with wheat from Wisconsin’s own Washington Island, giving it a nice “use local” cool factor. It’s got a great appearance: It pours with a huge head that gives way to tons of lacing. The beer itself is a nice sunny golden yellow and is quite hazy.
However, that’s where the greatness stops. The nose is really sweet with no subtle notes of any flavor. Taste-wise, it’s a pretty sweet beer, and sometimes that sweetness takes over the whole flavor. That’s the unfortunate part of this beer. At first sip it’s somewhat crisp and refreshing, but as you keep drinking, it just becomes sweet and non-descript.
Refreshingly different? Not really. It’s more suprisingly disappointing.
