It’s Super Bowl Sunday. A day when all Americans can enjoy good eats, root for a team that might not be their team (like the Packers), and drink some good beer. I decided to splurge and try a brew that the wife and I can enjoy on this day of all days. Twenty George Washingtons later, I have a beer from Dogfish Head to sample called Fort. The label states it is raspberry ale that is brewed with a ton of raspberries. No it’s not just an expression. It’s actually brewed with 2,500 lbs. of raspberries that are added incrementally after the brewing process. This adds more fermentable sugars, which makes this the world’s strongest fruit beer. This bad boy is 18 percent ABV and it sure tastes like it. Although if you ask my wife, she says it is not too bad. Now I don’t know if she is drunk already but I’ll say the taste is highly alcoholic and fruity. Not much more to say because these two characteristics are in full effect.
I write this review to express my level of versatility towards reviewing all beer styles. I am not a fruit beer fan like Jill, but I’m willing to try anything once. All in all, this is a pretty smooth tasting ale that expresses the level of imagination that the people of Dogfish Head provide. As I was thinking about purchasing this at the store I toyed with the idea of comparing it to Raspberry Tart by New Glarus. After finishing the bottle with my wife I will have to say they are equally great, but you will find nothing in common between the two.
