Midwest Winners Of The 2010 World Beer Cup
Check out this year’s winners at the 2010 World Beer Cup, held in Chicago, Illinois.by Eddie Glick
The World Beer Cup took place last week in Chicago. Although not the recipient of the kind of hype the Great American Beer Fest garners, the World Beer Cup makes up for it with entries from across the globe. This year’s medal winners came from a few places you don’t pop immediately into your brain when you think about craft beer. Places like Russia, Italy, and Iceland. Even though the fest is littered with idiotically arbitrary styles like “American-Style Specialty Lager” (won by Colt 45, of course), “Australasian, Latin American or Tropical-Style Light Lager” (did you know that’s the style AB’s Landshark Lager falls within?), and “Other Strong Beer” (because it didn’t fall into the “Strong Ale,” “American-Style Strong Pale Ale,” “Belgian-Style Dark Strong Ale,” “Belgian-Style Pale Strong Ale,” “Extra Special Bitter or Strong Bitter,” “Wood- and Barrel-Aged Strong Beer,” or the plethora of imperial styles available), it’s pretty cool to see funky brews from all across the world getting some love.
Also cool is the number of medal won by Midwest-based craft brewers. Thirty-three or so and all. Check ’em out below. Congrats Midwest craft brewers from all of us here at BeerDorks.com!
