However, the St. Croix Maple Ale is not that kind of refreshing. When I saw it in the store, I thought, “Cool! Beer with maple syrup! I can drink this for breakfast!” And of course I was kidding because any kind of craft beer needs to be savored and enjoyed, not necessarily poured over pancakes.
The reality is that you probably could drink this beer for breakfast without any repercussions of drinking alcohol so early in the morning, because this stuff is basically water. Maple flavor? Hell if I could taste it. In fact, any sort of flavor would’ve been a bonus here. Even if you’re a beer dork, I’d get some actual maple syrup for your pancakes and save yourself the disappointment.
