This spring, Baby-Boy and I were slammed to the ground with ferocious colds that prevented us from consuming a good amount of beer. I was determined to get back to 100% health in time for summer beer season, which is my forte, and I managed to do so within the last few weeks (spring allergy sinus attacks be damned too!).However, before we got sick, I procured some Great Lakes Dortmunder for reviewing purposes. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting around for some time and the graphics on the box gave Baby-Boy nightmares: Dortmunder! Dortmunder! It was like a bad omen, and I kept hearing it in my head and I didn't know where I got this from, and then I woke up and saw your beer in the kitchen. Scared the shit out of me, I tell you!
Lucky for you, drinking Dortmunder won't be as much of a nightmare. This is a really lovely beer in many ways. First off, it's got a reddish-gold hue that I think separates it from a good number of regular lagers. The head is also a decent size--it's not huge by any means, but it's got some staying power.
Once it's in your mouth, it's got a good feel with a lot of body to it. The taste lasts in the middle of your mouth and finishes off with a spot of pure enjoyment. Overall, I feel it's a really interesting lager that's a little dreamy.
